ফুলের হিসাব করলে দেখা যায় ১ কেজি মধু সংগ্রহের জন্য প্রায় ৪০ লক্ষ ফুলের পরাগরেণু স্পর্শ করতে হয়। সবকিছু ঠিক থাকলে ভালো মৌসুমে প্রায় ৫৫ কেজি মধু জমা হয়। এসব তথ্য থেকে আমরা বুঝতে পারি কর্মী মৌমাছি কি পরিমাণ পরিশ্রমী।

অপরদিকে রাণী মৌমাছি শুধু খায় আর ডিম পারে!

রাণী প্রতিদিন ১৫০০ থেকে ২৫০০ ডিম দেয়। পুরুষ মৌমাছির স্বভা বেশ অদ্ভুত। এরা জীবনেও কোন কাজ করে না, এমনকি কর্মী মৌমাছিকে এদের খাবার পর্যন্ত মুখে তুলে দিতে হয়। এদের জীবনের একমাত্র লক্ষ হলো রাণী মৌমাছির সাথে মিলিত হওয়া!

মিলন মৌসুমে প্রতিদিন দুপুরবেলা চাকের সর্বাধিক সক্ষম পুরুষ মৌমাছিগুলো একটি নির্দিষ্ট স্থানে ভিড় জমায় যাকে বলা হয় পুরুষ ধর্মসভা!

রাণী মৌমাছি হঠাৎ করে ঢুকে পড়ে পুরুষ ধর্মসভা এলাকায়। সে এসেই এক বিশেষ ধরণের গন্ধ ছড়িয়ে দেয়, যার ফলে শত শত পুরুষ মৌমাছি উত্তেজিত হয়ে পড়ে। এর পরপরই রাণী মৌমাছি উড়ন্ত অবস্থায় পছন্দমত পুরুষের সাথে মিলন করে। রাণী মৌমাছি একেবারে পর্যায়ক্রমে ১৮-২০টা পুরুষ মৌমাছির সাথে মিলিত হতে পারে!

অদ্ভুত ব্যাপার হল, যৌন মিলনের সময় পুরুষ মৌমাছির এন্ডোফেরাস বা যৌনাঙ্গ ভেঙ্গে যায় এবং তখনই মারা যায় পুরুষ মৌমাছি। এজন্যই এই মিলনকে বলা হয় “দি ড্রামাটিক সেক্সুয়াল সুইসাইড”।

একটি মৌচাক একটি মাত্র রাণী আ স্ত্রী মৌমাছি থাকে। রাণীকে কেন্দ্র করেই মৌচাক গড়ে ওঠে।

যদি কোন ডিম থেকে স্ত্রী মৌমাছির জন্ম হয় সে শিশু স্ত্রী মৌমাছিকে কর্মী মৌমাছিরা লুকিয়ে রাখে যেন রাণীর নজরে না আসে। রাণীর নজরে পড়লে ঐ শিশু স্ত্রী মৌমাছির নিশ্চিত মৃত্যু । শিশু রাণী মৌমাছিটি বড় হলে দুই রাণীর মধ্যে যুদ্ধ হয়। এতে দুটি পথ খোলা থাকে । হয় যুদ্ধে মৃত্যু ( একজন অপর জনকে হত্যা করে মৌচাকের কর্তৃত্ব গ্রহণ করে) না হয় দুজন আলাদা হয়ে পৃথক দুটি মৌচাক গড়ে তোলা।

অনাকাঙ্খিতভাবে যদি কোন রাণী মৌমাছি মারা যায় তবে সে খবর ১৫ মিনিটের মধ্যে সকল কর্মী মৌমাছি জানতে পারে এবং সম্মিলিতভাবে নতুন রাণী মৌমাছি তৈরি করার উদ্যোগ নেয়।

আরো কিছু অদ্ভুত বিষয় রয়েছে, যা জানলে আপনারা অবশ্যই অবাক হবেন,,, ৫০০ গ্রাম মধু তৈরিতে ২০ লক্ষ ফুল লাগে। শ্রমিক বা কর্মী মৌমাছি সারা জীবনে আধা চা চামচ মধু তৈরি করতে পারে। আরো একটা মজার ব্যাপার হলো, পৃথিবীতে মধু একমাত্র খাদ্য যা কখনোই পঁচে না!!!
