Last year, we created a Women in IT Council within our Thermo Fisher Scientific Digital and IT organization that is dedicated to empowering technical women by providing camaraderie, mentorship, sponsorship and visibility. It also aims to establish stronger allyship within our IT community.

With March being Women’s History month and celebrating International Women’s Day, I thought I’d share a few of the things we’ve heard/learned through the Council:

> Create a culture of acceptance and belonging by tackling imposter syndrome – Colleagues sharing stories with each other about how they’ve overcome it has helped create a more empathetic, supportive environment

> Importance of owning your own career – Hearing others share their own career journeys and reinforcing that YOU own your career has helped empower our team

> Remember to celebrate success – It’s hard to remember this in the flurry of the day-to-day. At the end of the year, we recognized some incredible women in our IT and Digital organization who represented each of our 4I values: Integrity, Intensity, Innovation and Involvement

> The value of networking – Creating a forum where colleagues feel the psychological safety to share their personal experiences has created stronger connections within our team

Are you hearing the same within your organizations? Do these resonate with you? Have you created similar forums for your teams?
